The "Functional House Tap Connection" (FHTC) Project is part of the Central Government of India initiative under the Jal Jeevan Mission (JJM). This project aims to provide a water connection to every house in India. NCTI LLP have taken up the FHTC Project on three islands of Lakshadweep, namely Minicoy, Agatti and Androth, from the Lakshadweep Public Works Department (LPWD).
Through a process of desalination, sea water is treated and converted to potable water. The National Institute of Ocean Technology (NIOT) is the consultant for this project. The scope involves supply and installation of 364 KM of HDPE pipes ranging from 125MM dia to 15MM dia, excavation/restoration of trenches and providing 5,500 households with potable water. The main water line (125MM dia) will connect the desalination plant to multiple overhead tanks. The distribution water pipes will be gravity fed from the overhead tanks to the households. This project was started in May 2023 and is on schedule for completion by year end.
